CHINA SEND WARNING TO NORTH KOREA
US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says the United States is in contact with North Korea.
Tillerson spoke to reporters in Beijing on Saturday after meeting President Xi Jinping and other Chinese officials.
He said Washington has “a couple of channels open to Pyongyang” and is gauging interest in dialogue toward denuclearization.
Tillerson said “the whole situation’s a bit overheated right now” and “everyone would like for it to calm down.”
He said “obviously it would help if North Korea would stop firing off missiles” and “that’d calm things down a lot.”
But State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a statement that “North Korean officials have shown no indication that they are interested in talks regarding denuclearization.”
She said this is “despite assurances that the US is not interested in promoting the collapse of the current regime, or accelerating reunification of the Korean Peninsula.
