Russian President Vladimir Putin brought his Japanese Akita breed dog, Yume, with him to an interview with representatives from the Japanese Nippon Television Network Corporation (Nippon TV) and Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper, in Moscow, Tuesday.

SOT, Vladimir Putin, Russian President (Russia): “I was told that you wanted to see Yume. Here she is, you can see that she is in great shape.”

SOT, Vladimir Putin, Russian President (Russia): “You were right to be cautious, Yume is a strict dog. There are many people here, with camcorders running, lights shining and cameras clicking. She performs her security functions.”

SOT, Vladimir Putin, Russian President (Russia): “I remember my very first acquaintance with Japan. Then I was Deputy Mayor of St. Petersburg. All of a sudden, Japan’s Consul General in St. Petersburg came to my office and said Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs wanted to invite me to Japan. I was very surprised because I had nothing to do with Japan except being a judoka.”

SOT, Vladimir Putin, Russian President (Russia): “This was an opportunity to visit Tokyo and a couple of other cities. And, you know, a capital is a capital everywhere: there is the official script and certain protocol. It is always easier to talk in the provinces, the conversation is more natural. Therefore, I hope that being on the home ground of the Prime Minister will motivate us to have a sincere, very practical and, I hope, productive conversation.”

SOT, Vladimir Putin, Russian President (Russia): “I think that people see that I am working hard, that I am striving openly, honestly and sincerely to achieve the results that our country needs. I think that they are also able to see that not all goes well. Our people are smart and sharp-sighted. I believe that the main thing is to sincerely aspire to achieve the maximum, so that the country feels more secure and people live better.”
