Jiankang Social Housing OpensA brand new block of social housing in Taipei’s Songshan District opened for applications today. Rents in the Jiankang Social Housing Block will start at around NT$6000 a month, after rental subsidies, for applicants who meet certain criteria. The 507 apartments are in a prime location and Taipei City Government expects to receive up to 10,000 applications. Lots will be drawn to determine the lucky 5% of applicants who can move in.Taoyuan Airport Taxi-SharingA taxi-sharing service has been launched by Taoyuan International Airport in conjunction with Taoyuan City Government. From tomorrow, Saturday 13, service personnel will help travellers arrange a shared taxi with others between the hours of midnight and 6am, when public transport is closed. A taxi can be shared by two to four parties, with the aim of reducing their carbon footprint as well as their travel costs.Encouraging Parents to Read to KidsAnd a program to encourage parents to read to their preschool children has been initiated by Yilan County Government, with the help of Taipei Rotary Club, the Shimarisu Picture Books shop and the NGO Reach Out and Read Taiwan. Scores of carefully selected picture books have been donated to the scheme with the hope of helping children in rural areas pick up a love for reading early on.
