Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced on Friday his plan to declare a state of emergency in response to the growing number of cases of COVID-19 in Spain.
He said that officials believe the number of cases in the country will surpass 10,000 by Saturday, and making an emergency declaration would assist in providing more resources to protect citizens.
Sanchez also urged people to protect those who are most at risk from the virus, individuals with underlying conditions and the elderly, by listening to health officials’ guidelines. He added that those most at risk should avoid public spaces.
