U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is in Beijing for talks with senior Chinese officials.
He arrived earlier on Saturday, and is set to meet State Councilor Yang Jiechi, and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
North Korea and President Trump’s upcoming visit in November are set to be front and center of their discussions.
Tillerson is scheduled to meet with President Xi Jinping on Sunday.
The meetings come amid claims made by a U.S. senator that five Chinese banks helped fund firms that were manufacturing North Korean missile parts.
Although Senator Joe Donnelly did not name the banks or how this conclusion was reached, evidence is believed to have come from an investigation of missile debris salvaged by South Korea and Japan.
