Portuguese foreign minister Augusto Santos Silva accused the EU of leaving his country in limbo because negotiators have failed to secure a timely Brexit deal. He suggests the lengthy negotiations mean member states have been unable to make their own bilateral deals with Britain – which is vital to Portugals economy, according to Mr Santos Silva. The foreign minister believes his country’s tourism, textile and automotive sectors will be heavily affected unless a sufficient Brexit deal is negotiated. The United Kingdom is Portugal’s fourth biggest export market, but that could suffer a 26 percent decline, according to a no-deal study in the country.
