Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited Lisbon on Friday where he was received by his Portuguese counterpart, Pedro Passos Coelho.
The two leaders held a news conference after holding talks, where Passos Coelho referred to the importance of stimulating the business climate between the two countries.
With Portugal set to conclude its European bailout programme by the end of the month, Coelho praised Japan’s investments and trust in the Portuguese economy.
“Portugal and Japan are also natural mediators for new and vibrant markets, such as Africa, Latin America and the Asia Pacific area, beneficiating from the inclusion in its political and economical regional communities”, Passos Coelho added.
Abe is visiting Portugal as part of a ten-day tour of Europe, including Germany, France and Britain.
It’s the first state visit by a Japanese leader to Portugal.
