Transcript: A Hero in the Sky
Sheila Frederick, an airline stewardess for Alaska Airlines, is an example for us all. In 2011, while on a routine flight, an odd couple caught her attention. A young teen age girl with “blonde, greasy hair” was sitting with an older “well-dressed man.” Something was wrong. The girl appeared distraught.
Frederick approached the pair and tried to talk. She was rebuffed. However, she was able to whisper to the girl to go to the restroom. There, she left a note on the mirror, instructing the teenager to leave a message if she needed help.
She did.
Frederick told the pilot. The pilot alerted police and the man was arrested when they reached the airport. Shelia Frederick saved the girl from a human trafficking ring. Her quick thinking and fast actions saved the young girl’s life.
Now in college, the young woman has kept in touch with Frederick. She is doing well and has a future she can look forward to. Frederick, humble as most heroes are, simply said, “If you see something, say something.”
She’s a true hero in the sky.
