沖縄県宮古島市にある伊良部大橋。４日未明、この橋から男性が誤って海に転落し、死亡した。転落の直前、男性は橋の上で交際中の女性にプロポーズし承諾の返事をもらっていたという。
■伊良部大橋は、宮古島と伊良部島を結ぶ全長３５４０メートルの橋。２０１５年の１月に開通し、無料で渡れる橋としては国内最長となる。
■宮古島の観光情報サイトでは真っ青な海とその上に延びる伊良部大橋の美しい風景が紹介されている。“インスタ映え”すると人気の観光スポットになっているが、この場所で今回の事故は起きた。
■警察によると、男性は交際中の同僚の女性と伊良部大橋にやってきたという。そして橋の上で女性にプロポーズをし、女性はこれを承諾。すると、男性はふざけて橋の欄干を乗り越え、外側の縁に立ち足を滑らせたという。
■男性は約３０メートル下の海に転落。海上保安庁のダイバーらが捜索し海底に沈んでいた男性を発見し引きあげたが死亡が確認された。
■橋の中央付近を見ると、欄干の外側に１メートル程度のスペースがあるが、宮古土木事務所によると、橋の点検を行うためのスペースだという。鉄製のため滑りやすく通常は立ち入りが禁止されている。
■男性は当時、酒を飲んでいたということで警察は事故の詳しい経緯を調べている。

■ Irabe Ohashi is a bridge with a total length of 3540 meters connecting Miyakojima and Irabujima. It is opened in January 2015 and it is the longest in Japan as a bridge that can be passed free of charge.
■ The tourist information site of Miyakojima introduces the pure blue sea and the beautiful scenery of the Irabu Ohashi extending over it. “Instant movie” is a popular tourist spot, but this accident happened at this place.
According to the police, the man came to Irabe Ohashi with a colleague’s woman in dating. Then we propose to women on the bridge, and women accept this. Then the man playfully surmounted the railings of the bridge and said that he slid his feet on the outer edge.
■ The man rolled down to the sea about 30 meters below. Divers and others of the Japan Coast Guard searched for and found a man sank in the seabed and drew up, but death was confirmed.
Looking around the center of the bridge, there is a space of about 1 meter outside the balustrades, but according to the Miyako civil office, it is said to be a space for checking the bridge. Because it is made of iron it is slippery and access is normally prohibited.
