一方、北朝鮮が発射を予告したグアムに向けた発射ではなかったことについて、河野外相は「南に向けて撃てばアメリカが対応したことを考えれば、北朝鮮がそれに少しひるんだということではないか」と分析している。
こうした中、安倍首相はアメリカのトランプ大統領と電話会談した。この中では、北朝鮮に対し日米両国で連携して圧力をさらに強めていくことで一致したという。またトランプ大統領は「アメリカは同盟国である日本と１００％共にある」として、日本の防衛に全力を尽くすとの認識を示したという。
日本政府は今後、国連安全保障理事会の緊急会合を求めるなど国際社会と連携して北朝鮮への圧力を強める方針。
