Seeing and hearing is believing in this one. Spanish triathlete shows incredible sportsmanship by ‘stopping’ on finish line to let British rival who took a wrong turn at the end, to cross first and win the bronze medal.
There was a little money involved as well and the event holders awarded the Spanish athlete the same prize as (honorary) third place as well, so a win, win, win all round for everybody and a great sportsmanship story too! Well done to Diego Mentriga for his gesture and to James Teagle for not missing out, as well as the organisers for their gesture as well.
Mentriga has since been hailed for his outstanding actions, with race winner Javier Gomez Noya describing his gesture as “the best in history”.
