Sergio Ramos played up to his villain role during Spain’s defeat to England on Monday night in the UEFA Nations League. Ramos, who angered Liverpool fans for his tackle on Mohamed Salah in the Champions League final, appeared to leave one on Raheem Sterling during the 3-2 defeat in Seville. In the second half of the enthralling international clash, the Real Madrid captain seemed to to stamp on the Manchester City winger in the penalty area. Sterling, who was clutching his ankle in the box following an England attack, was approached by Ramos before the Spain skipper kicked the City star behind the referee’s back. And inevitably, England supporters took to social media following the clash to vent their fury at the 32-year-old centre back, with some fans urging UEFA and FIFA to take action. One fan, alongside the video of the incident, wrote: ‘How has no one picked up on Ramos purposely going to stamp on Sterling’. A Liverpool supporter replied to the social media post: ‘Someone needs to take this up at the international level with @UEFAcom & FIFAcom’, while another wrote: ‘Got to be retrospective action, surely’. And the frustrations continued on Twitter, with one England fan slamming Ramos: ‘Oops he did it again… disgraceful’, while another said: ‘Looked deliberate to me, doesn’t surprise me’. Ramos endured a night to forget in Seville, conceding three first half goals – with Sterling scoring either side of Marcus Rashford’s close range strike. Spain pulled two goals back in the second half but it wasn’t enough as England held on for all three points in the Nations League.
