Marc Bartra has praised the impact Luis Enrique has had on the Spain national team since replacing Julen Lopetegui as permanent head coach. Lopetegui was sacked on the eve of this summer’s World Cup, with Fernando Hierro hastily installed as caretaker boss. Hierro could only guide a disjointed team to the last 16 in Russia, but Spain have looked like a much stronger proposition since Enrique’s appointment in July. Barta believes Enrique’s presence, tactical nous and previous experience as boss of Barcelona for three seasons have made a big difference to La Furia Roja. ‘He is a coach who is in control of all the tactical aspects and has won many titles,’ Bartra told a media conference on Saturday. ‘The fact he was at such a demanding club means you have to be 100 per cent focused. The national team now has another rhythm, it is calmer. ‘We can see the ambition and hunger that the coach has. ‘We have a compact, aggressive team with a good atmosphere on a daily basis. They are a great group of footballers and people.’ Spain are currently preparing to face England in Seville on Monday as they look to maintain their perfect start in the UEFA Nations League. Enrique’s players began the tournament by beating England 2-1 in the reverse fixture at Wembley last month, before thrashing Croatia 6-0. Real Betis defender Bartra played 45 minutes and scored his first ever international goal on Thursday as Spain cruised to a 4-1 friendly win over Wales in Cardiff.
