女子高校生の知人「（女子高校生は）『あまりタイプじゃないけど愛してくれているからつきあい始めた』って。（女子高校生は）悩んでいてつらそうな顔をしていました。（女子高校生が）他の男性とかと一緒にいると（少年に）殴られたりして、右腕を痛めたとききました」
逮捕された１５歳の高校生の少年は調べに対し、容疑を認めた上で、女子高校生について、「私を裏切ったので殺そうと思った」と供述しているという。また死亡した西山康介さんについては、「彼女を取ろうとしたので殺そうと思った」と話しているという。
